Applications are invited for the position of Medical Laboratory AssistantAssociate Practitioner in the Department of Cytopathology. This busy department is well equipped and processes approximately 6000 samples per annum. The successful candidate for this post should be an enthusiastic and motivated individual with good communication, IT and organisational skills with a flexible and adaptable approach to work. They should be able to work as part of a team, demonstrate an understanding of patient confidentiality, show an awareness of Health and Safety requirements and have a high level of manual dexterity. They will work within a dedicated team processing non-gynae cytology samples, and undertaking microtomy and special stains. Duties include preparation of non-gynae samples by a range of laboratory methods including the liquid based cytology (LBC) ThinPrep techniques, cyto-centrifugation and cell block methods. Attendance at rapid diagnostic clinics providing technical support to pathologists will also be required. The successful candidate must hold A Level qualifications or their equivalent and have previous experience of working in a laboratory. Experience of working in pathology within a clinical setting would be an advantage. It is expected that the successful candidate will work 18.75hrs per week and will also be required to cover duties at the Aintree site.
