An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Dietitian to join our friendly Dietetic Department at Whiston Hospital (St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospital NHS Trust).

You will be part of a well-respected, highly knowledgeable team who provides dietetic advice to the following clinical areas:

Stroke services Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Medicine for Older People General Medicine and Surgery

Critical Care Trauma and Orthopaedics

Burns and Plastics Frailty

A&E Paediatrics

Cardiology Respiratory

Diabetes Oncology/Haematology

Gastroenterology

The successful applicant will be working autonomously with access to experienced Band 7 Dietitians for clinical support and supervision. You will provide a high quality service to our in-patients, setting goals and monitoring progress and ensuring appropriate follow-up on discharge is arranged. You will be working closely with the multi-disciplinary teams within the hospital as well as having Dietetic Assistant and Admin support.

The successful candidate will deliver a high standard of evidence based care and hold responsibility for their own clinical caseload. You will help with the provision of parenteral nutrition and cover for the Band 7 nutrition support team dietitian, training can be provided if necessary. You will be a good team player, flexible, reliable, conscientious, self-motivated and forward thinking; with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Teaching skills, experience of multi-disciplinary team working and experience in and enthusiasm for service improvement and clinical audit are important. There are protected audit sessions within the Trust and staff are encouraged to make use of this.

We have an excellent staff supervision and appraisal system which supports the development of individuals and their services. We provide regular dietetic clinical placements and you will have an active role in training our future workforce.

A flexible approach to day to day tasks is required, in order to meet the demands of the service. Our philosophy is to keep the patient at the heart of everything we do. The successful candidate will:

  • Deliver a high standard of evidence based care
  • Be confident in their assessment and decision making
  • Participate in the discharge planning process
  • Supervise Dietetic Assistants, Band 5 Dietitians and students on clinical placement
  • Have significant postgraduate experience as a band 5 Dietitian
  • Have the ability to work flexibly and adaptably to changing working patterns
  • Have a working knowledge of a broad range of conditions with proven clinical skills or a keen interest in training in this specialist area

Please note we provide a seven day service, days of work will be Sunday to Saturday.
