Ladybird Forest Pre-School is a fully independent pre-school, rated Outstanding by Ofsted, and based in Ampthill, Bedfordshire.
Our fabulous team is committed to building on the strong reputation we have in the community, by providing children with excellent quality care and education. We run a well-established Forest School, as well as Breakfast, After-Pre School and Holiday clubs.
The role is up to 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 39 weeks and up to 6 weeks Holiday Club, but we are happy to discuss and agree to alternative working patterns to suit you.

Purpose of the Post:
The day to day management of the Pre-School, including staff management, marketing and administration.
To ensure that the Pre-School’s high standards are met and children receive excellent quality care and education; and
Supervision of staff within the setting, implementing high standards of quality practices.

Staff Management, Team Building and Development:
To create a positive and professional working environment for staff, encouraging team work and a desire to achieve.
To recruit, induct, supervise and appraise all Setting staff as appropriate, and in accordance with Setting policies, procedures and standards;
To ensure that all staff working in the Setting on any basis are carefully referenced and DBS checked prior to commencing employment;
To update and maintain Setting policies and procedures, ensuring that documents are easily accessible;
To co-ordinate/ chair staff meetings as appropriate, including preparation of agendas, training and planning sessions, with minutes;
To manage staffing levels within the Setting to comply with required ratios, including planning and organisation of staffing schedules and holiday rotas;
To maintain an accurate and effective personnel management system, ensuring all necessary paperwork is securely retained on each staff member, and that such files are kept up to date;
To actively promote and facilitate relevant staff training and development opportunities;
To oversee the supervision and training of student placements within the Setting;
To maintain staff awareness of key practices within the Setting, e.g. health and safety, food hygiene, administering of first aid, and fire drill procedures.
Business Development and Effective Business Administration
To be aware at all times of the Setting’s financial position and manage its resources to ensure expenditure is in line with budget;
To complete Central Bedfordshire SNP forms and where possible apply for additional grant funding;
To be aware of and act in accordance with current legislation, policy and procedures;
To be responsible for administrative duties associated with the management of the facility, e.g. ordering equipment, maintaining an inventory, keeping personnel records up to date;
To manage the development and implementation of systems to monitor and record child development;
To promote the aims and objectives of the Setting;
To promote the high standards of the Setting at all times to parents/carers, staff and visitors;
To liaise with Deputy Manager in showing parents/carers around the Setting facilities.
High Standards of Care and Education of the Children;
To ensure the EYFS is promoted and its principles are adhered to;
To fulfil the duties of the Safeguarding Designated Officer;
To ensure staff comply at all times to the Setting’s policies, procedures and standards including health and safety, hygiene, inclusion, confidentiality etc.;
Liaise with parents/carers, other family members and staff to help ensure that the particular needs of children are met and that parental choice is considered in terms of care given;
To plan and implement appropriate objectives and policy for the Setting;
To take responsibility for drawing up long-term, medium-term and sessional curriculum plans, and evaluate their effectiveness;
To ensure that a high standard of quality care and education is provided at all times;
To lead a team of professional workers and to ensure good practice at all times;
To be responsible for observation system and record keeping so that children’s progress and achievements are effectively and regularly assessed, and to monitor the effectiveness of assessment procedures;
To manage the quality of resources within the Setting, including maintenance of materials and equipment;
Establishing and maintaining effective communications links with the Local Authority and other professional bodies associated with the Setting;
Maintain the requirements for “Millie’s Mark” and “Safe Food Management”;
To be responsible for the running of Breakfast, After Pre-School and Holiday clubs.
To promote the Pre-School, its curriculum and activities / events by actively engaging with parents/carers and encouraging their involvement;
To fulfil the duties of a Data Control Officer;
To provide termly report to the Board of Directors and arrange meetings with the Board as necessary;
Working in partnership with parents/carers / carers and other family members;
To ensure that Ladybird Pre-School is a safe environment for children, staff and others, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, safety procedures are implemented at all times and fire drills are regularly practiced.
Overseeing the efficient upkeep of the building, furnishings and fittings;
Co-ordinating with appropriate agencies regarding student/trainee placements and supervising accordingly;
To liaise with outside agencies as required;
To ensure the efficient upkeep of the building and maintenance/stock of equipment, furnishings and fittings, to be supported by appropriate policies for stock checking and assessing the safety of equipment and resources within the Setting;
To establish effective and respectful working relationships with key contacts including (but not limited to) the Board of Directors, Russell Lower and other Pre-Schools & Lower Schools within the area.
This is not an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities and the post holder will be required to undertake any other reasonable duties which may be required from time to time. The post holder is also expected to be flexible and adaptable in their approach to fulfilling their duties.
Working relationships will include the following:
All staff, parents / carers and children, Board of Directors, Ofsted, Central Bedfordshire Children’s Services, Russell Lower, staff from a wide range of other agencies and settings including the Social Services, Primary Care Trust, NHS Trust, a range of voluntary /private sector organizations and Day Care providers.
Qualifications and Training
Completion (or be working towards completion) of a recognised childcare qualification at Level 4 or above
DBS Enhanced Barred Lists clearance
Safeguarding Level 3
A positive approach to gaining further qualification
Completion of courses in effective supervision / management
An understanding of the importance of Health & Safety and Food Hygiene in the workplace
Completion, or be working towards achievement of Early Years Teacher Status
First Aid certificate
Health & Safety certificate
Completion of other relevant courses (e.g. allergen awareness, fire warden)
Experience / Knowledge
3 years’ post qualifying experience in an Early Years setting, of which at least 2 have involved managing and supervising staff
Experience in motivating teams and recruiting new staff members
Experience of staff induction, supervision, and appraisal processes
A commitment to the provision of high quality childcare with an interest in the care, learning and development of young children
Knowledge of the Welfare requirements for the regulation of childcare provision
A commitment to a promoting a safe working culture for staff and children
Proven administrative experience, including handling confidential staff and child records
Ability to manage budgets and financial records
A positive approach to learning and gaining new skills through teamwork and training opportunities
An understanding of the Foundation Stage curriculum and the EYFS
Demonstrable and detailed knowledge of current, relevant legislation
Focused on maximizing the care and development of children within the Pre-School
Excellent interpersonal skills
Effective IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Office)
Able to create and implement policies and procedures consistent with legislation, regulations and local requirements
Strong personal commitment to and understanding of equality and diversity and its delivery
Enthusiasm for giving children the highest quality care and education opportunities
Good organisational, record keeping, planning skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with colleagues, parents, carers and children
A positive approach to inclusive practice, with children, colleagues, parents and carers
