The Amazon Marketplace UK team is looking for a talented, customer-obsessed Category Merchant Manager (CMM) to help shape the future of our 3rd party marketplace. This role offers the unique opportunity to own sizable portions of two product families – Consumables and Books, while also driving large scale, high visibility projects across a variety of internal teams – with ownership of ops, tech and Retail partnerships.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized and have a demonstrated track record of successful project management/ownership, juggling multiple projects with competing deadlines, and using data to identify and prioritize opportunities. They area self-starter with a passion for independent, creative problem-solving. They are analytical, enthusiastic, self-motivated, detail-oriented, customer-focused, and have strong writing skills with the ability to handle ambiguity, influence employees at all levels of the organization, and lead doc creation for senior stakeholders. They can understand a business/process from multiple perspectives (Selling Partner, Customer, Retail, Brand, and Compliance) and can propose solutions which balance/align the needs of all stakeholders.
The CMM will have several key responsibilities within the 3rd party Marketplace side of the business, including:
  • Category strategy and ownership (Books and Consumables): Work closely with Leadership on planning and business strategy, drive best-in-class customer experience and maximize unit and GMS growth through timely analysis and action.
  • Selling Partner management: Identify and lead new Seller partnerships, manage a small number of Amazon’s largest Selling Partners and enhance overall Seller Experience by using anecdotes and data to a drive a continuously improving self-service Seller Experience.
  • Project management: Lead a variety of projects that drive growth and improve Customer Experience and Seller Experience in EU Consumables and Books. Partner with tech and central teams to drive automation and scalability across the worldwide organization.

The successful CMM must:
  • Act as the ‘business owner’ for their categories, possessing a complete understanding of internal and external variables that impact our business (this entails owning forecasting, monitoring, understanding and reporting on the category, along with responsibility for driving strategic projects to achieve business objectives)
  • Develop a complete understanding of the customer needs, both existing and potential, and use that knowledge to deliver site features that provide Amazon customers with an unparalleled shopping experience
  • Manage strategic selling partner relationships – with senior stakeholder engagement (internal and external)
  • Create business plans for new opportunities and develop and execute project plans for the launch of new features, incorporating merchandising and pricing strategies
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams, and communicate with internal and external parties, while meeting tight deadlines for high visibility projects
  • Bring innovative ideas to the table every day, and drive stakeholder teams to support them, in order to find better ways of accomplishing our customer objectives.
  • MBA or related Master’s degree
  • Experience in consulting, marketplace e-commerce, and/or retail/consumer products industries
  • Have delivered results with a strong resilient entrepreneurial spirit
