Veterinary Assessors in the Efficacy Team Job Opening in UK

About this recruitment:
The VMD is aiming to recruit two veterinary assessors. Alongside assessment work, one assessor will also work on ‘Guideline development’ and the other will also work on ‘VMD international work’ (more below). We will allocate these roles – which may also include line management responsibilitiesdepending on our business need and the successful candidates’ experience. Purpose of the Jobs
You will be a veterinary assessor within the Efficacy Team, which is part of the VMD’s Authorisations Division.
You will be responsible for assessing efficacy and target species safety data for applications for:
  • new marketing authorisations for pharmaceutical veterinary medicinal products
  • variations to existing marketing authorisations
  • renewals of existing marketing authorisations and
  • veterinary aspects of animal test certificates to conduct clinical field trials

Main Duties:
‘Guideline development’ role:
You will:
  • lead the Efficacy Team’s contribution to developing scientific and regulatory industry guidance for pharmaceutical veterinary medicinal products

‘VMD international work’ role
You will:
  • lead the co-ordination of the Efficacy Team’s contribution to VMD International Strategy activities, which is likely to involve some foreign travel

Duties common to both roles:
You will:
  • deputise for the Head of the Efficacy Team
  • develop medicines availability and prioritisation work
  • establish enhanced external regulatory and scientific networks through expert resourcing
  • build capability within the Efficacy Team through provision of relevant training
  • contribute to VMD’s Regulatory Science Strategy
  • scientifically assess efficacy and target species safety data for marketing authorisations, animal test certificates, variations and renewals for pharmaceutical veterinary medicinal products
  • undertake a detailed evaluation of the data and, in liaison with other assessors, formulate a recommendation to accept or refuse the application, based on the benefits and risks you identify during the assessment
  • prepare and peer review written assessment reports
  • present assessment reports to UK and international scientific committees
  • advise applicants on technical aspects of potential applications
  • deal with enquiries and represent the Efficacy Team at meetings with internal and external stakeholders
  • maintain awareness of current developments, legislation and guidance affecting pharmaceutical veterinary medicines within National and International context
  • contribute to development and revision of industry guidelines
  • contribute to the delivery of the VMD International Strategy (which may involve foreign travel)
  • advise Defra and outside organisations, including logistics to ensure the continued availability of pharmaceutical veterinary medicines
  • develop junior assessors in the team
  • collaborate with members of the Authorisations Division to achieve the Division’s overall objectives and
  • contribute to wider VMD initiatives, such as training and development, publicity programmes, R&D programme.
  • You may also manage and develop allocated veterinary assessors.

Responsibilities You must have a good understanding of current animal health and topical veterinary issues.
You must have relevant experience of pharmaceutical veterinary medicinal products, gained within the pharmaceutical industry and/or within a Regulatory Authority, specifically you will have experience of:
  • regulatory authorisation systems for pharmaceutical veterinary medicinal products
  • preparing scientific reports relating to the evaluation of benefit/risk of these products
  • applying your analytical and problem–solving skills quickly to assimilate scientific and other information, identifying issues, drawing conclusions, and making recommendations
  • communicating complex veterinary issues, in writing and face-to-face, with clarity and conviction in the face of tough negotiation or challenge
  • prioritising continuous self-learning and development – identifying those areas that you need to develop to achieve your future objectives and
  • provision of scientific training.
  • You must have experience – or an awareness – of clinical veterinary work.
  • You must have experience – or be able to demonstrate a viable approach to – successfully managing a team of professionals.
Qualifications You will hold a veterinary degree and be (or be eligible to become) a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Behaviours
