Medical Laboratory Assistant – Full time Job Openings in Abergavenny

Laboratory Services Limited (“SLS”) has become one of the UK’s largest provider of clinical laboratory services. Our laboratory based in Abergavenny are currently looking to expand the team and seek an enthusiastic Medical Laboratory Assistant to support within our Pathology department.

Job Summary:

  • To perform all designated duties in accordance with local working practices, to maintain high personal standards and conform to Health and Safety regulations.
  • To prepare and process clinical specimens for biomedical testing, within operating procedures and protocols.
  • To work within agreed quality standards of service delivery and turnaround times under the supervision of your line manager.
  • To continue with personal development through academic or practical experience.

Required skills and experience

Applications are sought from self-motivated candidates who can offer experience in the following:

  • NVQ3, or equivalent, level of knowledge, a minimum requirement of 3 GCSE’s to include English and Maths and at least one science subjects.
  • Working knowledge of the receipt and preparation of samples for biomedical testing.
  • Good degree of accuracy & numeracy.
  • Knowledge of computer applications in use within Pathology, particularly LIMS, Quality Management System and Procurement system.
  • Experience of working in a Biomedical laboratory.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of levels of staff within the laboratory and user organisations.
  • Good developed interpersonal and team working abilities.
  • Adept at majority of specimen receipt and preparation procedures.
  • Ability to manage time to best advantage.
  • Ability to adapt efficiently to change.
  • Able to plan activities within area of work.
  • High degree of dexterity required.
  • Able to concentrate for prolonged periods of time.
