Contract Manager Job Opening in London

  • Supporting the commercial team in all pre-contract activities including contract sourcing strategies, contract document production and amendments during the life of the contract.
  • Lead the development of the business case for approval, ensuring that input from the commercial team is reflected.
  • Ensuring that the requirements/deliverables of the contract are clearly specified during the sourcing stage.
  • Ensuring that the business case(s) allows for appropriate contract management resource to be in place at the appropriate time(s).
  • Ensuring effective mobilisation of new contracts including the population of contract management roles with appropriately trained/qualified people.

Contract Management
  • Leading the development and implementation of best practice contract management plans, operating procedures and compliance mechanisms to ensure the Department receives maximum value for money.
  • Leading on performance monitoring for the Department, including monitoring of contractual KPIs and Service Levels, ensuring that any performance issues are addressed quickly and in line with best practice guidelines to ensure risks to the Department are minimised.
  • Ensuring that the Department delivers on its contractual obligations and escalating non-compliance appropriately to ensure the Department remains in conformance with the contract
  • Lead on developing the reporting rhythm for the Department; providing appropriate feedback to stakeholders on a regular basis to ensure the contract remains aligned to agreed policy objectives.
  • Creating and maintaining effective contract management governance, including the development of appropriate systems, processes and document libraries in line with best practice guidelines.
  • Establishing and proactively managing the contract risk register; establishing an escalation procedure and escalating risks as appropriate, ensuring that mitigating actions are in place for each to reduce the impact to the Department.
  • Confident in delivering difficult messages to contractors and other stakeholders, ensuring that messages are tailored as appropriate whilst maintaining a high level of professionalism in difficult circumstances.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills to deliver through others, including when working remotely.
  • Demonstrate strong commercial acumen coupled with strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Be able to prioritise effectively, ensuring that activities undertaken are based on a risk-management approach whilst being able to respond positively and effectively to competing and complex demands.
  • Demonstrate a good level of proficiency across the Microsoft Office 365 suite of products, including being able to draft and prepare reports as and when appropriate for senior management.
  • Ability to manage financial budget and forecast within contracts.

Essential Experience:
  • The successful candidate will be expected to be willing & able to work towards and achieve the Practitioner level of the Contract Manager Capability Programme if this is not already held.
  • Experience of working with multilateral contracts, including those with an international focus.
  • Experience of working with and across multiple Whitehall departments to deliver results.
  • Experience and knowledge of managing multi-stakeholder and complex contracts.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and virtual teams to deliver results.
  • Managing consultants and/or contractors.
  • Presenting information clearly and effectively to a wide range of audiences.
  • Drafting well-structured and clear written information at pace.

Preferred Experience:
  • Accredited to at least the IACCM Practitioner level and/or Practitioner level status under the Contract Management Capability Programme (CMCP) or other equivalent accreditation/qualification as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of ODA programming and eligibility.
  • Experience of working with multilateral contracts.
  • Experience of working with international contracts.
  • Good understanding of corporate function departments and corporate governance.
  • Experience of working across Whitehall.
